User Management

The user Management allows you to monitor and manage users. From here you can control the access levels of the users, control the limits and well everything from A-Z about the users can be done from here.

Searching Users

Linked from the Main Admin Panel leads to a Selection user panel which askes for the method to select a user for managing. There are 3 ways to do that,

  • username
  • email address
  • or by the real name search

shows the options shown under selection user panel

Listing Users : Actived ~ Unactived ~ blocked ~ All

  • Activated: Lists users which have confirmed there registeration
  • Unactivated: Lists users not activated but are not older than the maximum unactivation days specified in the configuration.
  • Blocked: Lists the users the admin has blocked the rights to enter or display albums
  • All Users: Lists all the users the system has registered

This can be achived by options in the main admin panel or the selection user panel under User management.

Changing User Options

Changing Username / Realname / email

To Change username and realname, just type in the new username and realname in the fields and update the account.

To change and email address, you just need to type in a new valid email address, but theres another option which will change the current password to the new one to check the user's new email address validity. Doing this will send a new password to the new email address, hereby seeing if the user has that new email address as his/her own. If you do not check the field for password change, then simply the new email address will be added in the db, not changing the current password.

Changing user specific Language preference

As simple as selecting... Also read: Changing Default Language

Changing Status / Blocking user

Status of user shows whether the user is:

  • Normal: Activated and not blocked
  • Blocked: Activated but blocked, user won't be given access to the system authentication, albums will be blocked for public view
  • Unactivated: User is unactivated

You can change the status by selecting a new one, but changng from activated to unactivated will not put the user in waiting list. Therefore this can be used if you want user not log in but albums should be blocked which are done in the blocked status.

How to unblock users, who were blocked automatically by expire date?
You just need to change the status to Activated and change the expire date to a new date.

Changing password

As the passwords are kept in encrypted format and can't be decrypted so if you want issue a new password to the user you give have to do so by typing in a new one and then to inform the user check the checkbox which says sendmail.

Changing Album, space, photo, reminder Limit

Changing the limits is just as easy typing numbers, just type in the new value of the limit you want that user to have.

  • Note: if you want to provide user space in KB or less than use . for that, e.g. if you want to give the user the space limit of 30 MB and 200 k then you just type in 30.2.

You can optionally set these values:

  • 0 = No Limit
  • -1 = Restricted Access

Preferences or Prefs

Preferences column contains small identifiers named FLAGS, each of letter depicts a type of indication of the user's customisation, access and other values. These are case-sensitive and you should take care while editing them manually. The current flags understood by Albinator are:

L (uppercase) Listing of Public Albums only
l (lowecase) Listing of All Albums
To remove listing at all remove L from the table (upper and lower none should be there)
B Border with thumbnails and full images
M Has manipulate access
R Has reminder access to monthly reminders
E No email show in the user profile
To show email remove E from prefs

User Validity

You can define the date when the user account will be expired, the user won't be allowed to access the system after the validity period, if you wish to disallow the view of user's albums also, you must block the account too.

Tip: You you can set a default time period e.g. 1 week for all users who signup from Configuration > Default Rules > Default User Validity = 7. You can use this as a demo account, you can provide any number of days for default validity, e.g. for 1 year = 365.

Note: Mail settings at expiry time can be done from your Configuration > Critical Settings

Importing User database into Albinator Tables (ver 1.01+)

This is a small utility which can be accessed from your User Management panel by clicking on the link import.

The minimum requirements for Albinator's user-table are to provide with:

  • Username
  • Real Name
  • Password (must be either orignal or md5 encryption format)
  • Email

and as you can see these fields are the most common and used almost in all user-databases.

How to go about it..
Importing is as simple as clicking, you just need to know the database_name (which has your orignal user-tables), the username and the password of that database. The name of the above mention fields. (if you don't know what the field names are, you can simply check the table-structure using utilities provided by your host or using a free utility name phpMyAdmin).

Once you have provided the field names, the import things to remeber are:

  • whether your current user-tables have passwords which are already encrypted using md5 alogrithm.
  • you wish the users to activate their albinator accounts by sending them activation links OR allow them direct access to the system with welcome mail informing them about the new addition to your website. You can also select no welcome mail sending (select none). The optional welcome message can be types in the message field.

That's it press import button and you are done.
